Teaching Number Sense TK - 5th Grade

Description
This Community of Practice will focus on strengthening foundational number sense in TK–5 classrooms by diving into Chapter 3 of the California Mathematics Framework and implementing daily Number Talks. Our goals are to: Build teacher understanding of how number sense develops over time. Support implementation of research-based routines that promote mental math and mathematical discourse. Explore the vision and guidance in Chapter 3 of the CA Math Framework and what it means for early math instruction. Share resources and practices to create inclusive, equitable math environments that empower young learners.

Integrating Arts Education

Description
This CoP will explore arts integration and the creative process as tools to support holistic learning across all subject areas. In community, we will further our understanding of both the social-emotional benefits and academic benefits of arts engagement and arts learning as a group. Through workshops and conversations, we will explore art practices that can easily be brought into classrooms and explore these larger themes together in real time. This CoP is designed to feed teachers’ creativity while realizing the vision of the Strategic Arts Education Plan: to increase access, support and capacity for an equitable, empowering and student-centered creative arts education. No prior art experience is required.

This Community of Practice will support grades 7–12 math teachers in implementing the new California Mathematics Framework. Our goals are to: Deepen understanding of the framework’s vision and recommendations. Explore and implement Building Thinking Classrooms strategies that foster student agency and problem-solving. Integrate purposeful technology to enhance engagement and learning outcomes. Reimagine student notebooks as powerful, personalized learning tools that support metacognition and academic success.

Beyond the Buzz: Truth, Trust, and Teen Life

Description
This CoP will provide factual information regarding the increase of mental health concerns with our students, understanding why our students are self medicating, and handling classroom behavior with consistency and empathy. Each class will focus on proactive strategies to strengthen student connections and build rapport. Hopefully, our discussions about current student/adult interactions and data collection from our dashboard will provide us with insight for a healthier and more successful school experience for both faculty and students.
